Out of every tip I am giving you in the book, I think this one is the biggest tip I can give to any franchisees – go to conference!
The thing is, it isn’t just about going to conference for the conference content. Although that is really important too and vital for your business and your learning and growth, there is one place that I think you will learn the most valuable things for your business and that is at the bar! Yes, at the bar.
At the end of the conference day – every day – you will find that most franchisees head to the bar for a cooling ale of some type and start to chat. This is where you will find the gold nuggets of information to help you in your business.
You might learn something new or you might actually just learn that you are right on track and doing everything you need or should be doing. You might be able to pass on information to other franchisees and help them which is just as valuable to you as it is to them. You will get that little thrill that you can help them and that in turn helps you.
You don’t have to wait for the bar either. Use morning and afternoon tea times, over lunch, discussions on your table during the sessions (about that session of course) can all prove to be valuable.
I speak at a lot of franchise conferences and you will find I even generally tell the audience this in my presentation. When I’m presenting, my goal is to start a conversation – a conversation between the franchisees, things they can discuss, questions they can ask each other. No one will have as much valuable information as another franchisee in your group.
So even if you don’t have the time or money to go to conference, or you believe that conferences just aren’t your ‘thing’, go to conference! Those franchisees that really contribute, share, ask great questions and are happy, friendly people, always benefit from conference.
From my experience, franchisees that attend conference are more profitable. Franchisees that really contribute and ask questions, see real upward motion of their profit year on year.
