As a franchisee, you need to understand the difference between abdication and delegation.
When you delegate a task to someone else, you do so understanding the task yourself and you had over the responsibility of doing that task along with a system or a clear set of instructions and guidelines on the task and how it should be completed and to what standard.
Abdication on the other hand is when you hand something over to someone else with the ‘Just sort this out for me’ sort of mindset. You don’t know what needs to be done or how to do it or you simply just want someone else to sort it out for you.
So are you experiencing issues in your franchise business where tasks are not being completed to the correct standard or you have staff who are not sure what to do? The question is, are you abdicating or delegating?
Delegating will take just moments longer to do, but will produce a far better result with less stress! Even if you don’t know what needs to be done or how to do it, take a few moments with the person you are handing it to and have a chat and communicate with each other or set a process of how they can come back to you with more information in the process of completion.
Continual abdication in your business will lead to all sorts of trouble. Make sure you understand what is happening in your business, to your business or for your business. After all, it is your business.
