A quick and easy way to increase your productivity is to set a timer to go off during the day. Some of my clients will set it to go off every hour, whilst others might have it set to go off just two or three times in the day.
When the alarm sounds, simply stop for one minute and ask yourself ‘Is this the best use of my time right now?’
If the answer is yes, then continue on.
If the answer is no, then maybe you need to reassess what you are doing and change it to something that is a far better use of your time.
Now, I know what you are thinking as I hear it all the time. What if what I am doing right now is not the best use of my time, but I need to get it done now?
This is real life people. Things are not always perfect and we all have to do things that are below our ‘pay rate’ shall we say. At this time, you need to question it further.
- How fast can I get this done so I can move onto something worthy of my time?
- How can I outsource, delegate this item?
- How can I systemise this duty so that it is easier to do in the future or someone else could do it for me?
- Is it really that important? (Sometimes we tell ourselves something is important when it simply isn’t.)
We all have the same 24 hours in a day, but some people get more done in less time because basically they are more disciplined with their use of time.
Discipline actually leads to freedom. If you work when you need to work, then you can play/live when you have time off.
Remember also that as a business owner, you get paid for the results in your business, not for the hours you put in!
